About Baki the Grappler
Baki Hanma fights through underground arenas and tournaments to earn a shot at his father Yujiro, billed as the strongest creature on Earth. The anime starts with a 45-minute 1994 OVA, then Group TAC's 48-episode Baki the Grappler (2001), which covers the early underground fights plus the Maximum Tournament. TMS Entertainment picked the story up for the Netflix era.
Netflix's Baki (26 episodes, 2018) adapts the Death Row Convicts arc, followed by the 13-episode Great Raitai Tournament Saga (2020) and the two Baki Hanma: Son of Ogre seasons (12 episodes in 2021, 27 across 2023) ending in the father-son fight. The Kengan Ashura crossover film (June 2024) is non-canon. Baki-Dou: The Invincible Samurai adapts the resurrected Musashi Miyamoto arc in 25 episodes split across February 26 and June 18, 2026.
Good to know
Chronology purists slot the 1994 OVA between episodes 16 and 17 of the 2001 series; release order keeps it first with no real loss. Netflix labels the 2018 and 2020 runs inconsistently by region (parts vs seasons). No anime beyond Baki-Dou had been confirmed as of September 2026; Keisuke Itagaki's Baki Rahen manga remains unadapted.
