About Bubblegum Crisis
Bubblegum Crisis began as an eight episode OVA series released between 1987 and 1991, set in a rebuilt MegaTokyo where the Knight Sabers battle rogue Boomers built by the Genom corporation. The franchise later split into two separate continuities: the original OVA timeline continued by AD Police Files, Bubblegum Crash and Parasite Dolls, and the 1998 reboot Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040 with its own prequel series.
Good to know
Tokyo 2040 retells the core story with new designs and a new timeline, so it is not a sequel to the OVAs and can be watched on its own. Release order also works for the original continuity, since the AD Police Files prequel assumes you already know the Knight Sabers.
