About Kaiju No. 8
Kafka Hibino is 32 and cleaning up after kaiju attacks when a parasite turns him into a human-kaiju hybrid. He hides the power to finally join the Defense Force beside Mina Ashiro, his childhood friend turned star captain. Production I.G animated season 1 (12 episodes, April to June 2024) with Studio Khara on kaiju design.
The recap film Mission Recon (Japan, March 28, 2025) bundles the original short Hoshina's Day Off, then season 2 (11 episodes, July to September 2025) moves Kafka to the First Division under Gen Narumi. At Jump Festa 2026 the staff confirmed the anime's Final Chapter is in production alongside a new short, Narumi's Week at Work. Neither has a date yet.
Good to know
Mission Recon is skippable if you watched season 1, except for the Hoshina's Day Off short, which is listed separately. The Final Chapter has no confirmed format or date, so it sits in notes rather than the list. Naoya Matsumoto's manga ended in 2025 at chapter 129.
