About Garfield
Garfield's screen run starts with twelve CBS specials that aired from Here Comes Garfield in October 1982 through Garfield Gets a Life in 1991, and those play best as one block. Garfield and Friends followed on CBS with seven seasons from 1988 to 1994, pairing Garfield shorts with the U.S. Acres farm strips. Two live-action theatrical films, Garfield: The Movie (2004) and A Tail of Two Kitties (2006), sit between the classic TV eras and the modern animation.
The Garfield Show ran five CGI seasons from 2009 to 2016, and Garfield Originals delivered 24 three-minute silent-style shorts in 2019 and 2020. The Garfield Movie rebooted the cat in CG in May 2024 and grossed $257 million worldwide. A sequel is in development and a new 2D Paramount+ series is in production, so watch in release order and slot new entries at the end.
Good to know
The three direct-to-video CGI features (Gets Real 2007, Fun Fest 2008, Pet Force 2009) are optional and skipped here. A Garfield Movie sequel was reported in the works in July 2025 with Pratt producing and Dindal returning, undated. Paramount+ ordered a 2D Garfield series in March 2026 with Lamorne Morris voicing the cat; in production with no premiere date. Specials are grouped because they are standalone.
