About Dead Rising
Dead Rising is Capcom's zombie series about photojournalist Frank West and the outbreaks that follow him. Each game drops you in a packed location with a ticking clock and hundreds of zombies to carve through with improvised weapons. The tone mixes gore with slapstick.
This play order follows release order, which is also the story order. New players should start with Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster (2024), the RE Engine rebuild of the 2006 original and the current version of the first game.
Good to know
Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop (2009) is a cut-down Wii port of the first game with motion controls; the Deluxe Remaster replaces it. Case Zero and Case West were Xbox 360 exclusives and never came to the 2016 Triple Pack remasters. Off the Record (2011) is a non-canon retelling of Dead Rising 2 with Frank as the lead. Dead Rising 3 has four optional DLC episodes (Operation Broken Eagle, Fallen Angel, Chaos Rising, The Last Agent) and Dead Rising 4 has the Frank Rising story DLC. A fifth game died with Capcom Vancouver's closure in 2018. Capcom's May 2026 briefing lists Dead Rising (19 million units) as a leading brand for sequels, remakes and ports, but no specific title has been announced. Codename Rec rumors of a Hollywood-set sequel remain unconfirmed.
