About Devil May Cry
Devil May Cry is Capcom's stylish-action series about demon hunter Dante, running from the 2001 original through Devil May Cry 5 in 2019. Release order is the recommended play order: start with 1 or 3, and treat 2 as a short stop. DmC: Devil May Cry (2013) is a separate continuity made with Ninja Theory, not part of Dante's main story. The Netflix anime (season 1, April 2025) is its own adaptation outside game continuity.
Chronology differs from release order because 3 is a prequel about a young Dante, and Capcom's own series recap places 2 before 4. A second list below gives that story order. Either list works; release order preserves how the combat evolved.
