About Diablo
Blizzard's Diablo is a loot-driven action RPG series about the war for Sanctuary between humans, angels and the Prime Evils. Four main games span 1997 to 2023, each followed by expansions that continue the story, while Immortal fills a gap between Diablo II and III. Release order is the intended play order.
Newcomers should start with Diablo IV, which is current and recaps the older lore through its campaign. Players curious about the classic formula can play Diablo II: Resurrected, the 2021 remaster that bundles the base game with Lord of Destruction.
Good to know
Diablo V was revealed at BlizzCon in Sept 2026 with a Spring 2029 window, and Blizzard also announced an Amazon class pack for Diablo IV in 2027. Hellfire (1997) was made by Synergistic and published by Sierra, not Blizzard, and is skippable. Rise of the Necromancer (2017) is a single-class pack for Diablo III, not a story expansion.
