- 4 Ninja Gaiden (Black / Sigma) 2004 Xbox original; Black (2005) is the expanded cut, Sigma (2007) the PS3 port. All three are in the 2021 Master Collection.
- 5 Ninja Gaiden II (2 Black) Play Ninja Gaiden 2 Black (Jan 23, 2025) as the current version. Recommended entry point.
- 6 Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge 2012 original reworked as Razor's Edge (2013). Weakest of the three.

About Ninja Gaiden
Ninja Gaiden splits into the NES trilogy (1988-1991), famous for cinematic cutscenes and steep difficulty, and the modern 3D trilogy that began on Xbox in 2004. The modern games were revised several times, so version notes matter more than story order.
Release order is the recommended play order. Newcomers should start with Ninja Gaiden 2 Black (2025), the Unreal Engine 5 remaster of the series peak, or Ragebound (2025) for the 2D lineage. Ninja Gaiden 4 (Oct 2025) adds newcomer Yakumo beside Ryu.
Good to know
Ninja Gaiden 4 was announced in Jan 2025 alongside 2 Black and released Oct 21, 2025, not 2026 as some early speculation had it. The Sigma versions differ from the Xbox originals (fewer enemies, added content); purists prefer Black and the 2008 original, both folded into the notes above. The Master Collection (2021) bundles the Sigma versions of the modern trilogy.
