About The Outer Worlds

The Outer Worlds is Obsidian's satirical first-person RPG series about corporate colonies at the edge of space. This play order follows release order: the 2019 original, its two story expansions, then the 2025 sequel in a new star system with a new crew. Newcomers should start with the original, ideally the Spacer's Choice Edition.

Both expansions slot into the first game's mid to late campaign and stay open before its point of no return. The sequel stands alone, so the DLC is backstory rather than homework.

Good to know

Spacer's Choice Edition (March 7, 2023) bundles the base game and both expansions with visual upgrades; it is the current version of the first game, not a separate story. The Outer Worlds 2 launched October 29, 2025; a DLC pass for two future story expansions is on sale, but no titles or dates were set as of this check.
