About Splinter Cell
Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell follows NSA operative Sam Fisher through a stealth-action saga that ran from 2002 to 2013. This play order follows release order, which matches the story order, and recommends Chaos Theory as the entry point for newcomers who want the series at its best.
Double Agent shipped in two distinct versions with different stories, while the PSP exclusive Essentials is an optional side story. A full remake of the 2002 original is in development at Ubisoft Toronto, though Ubisoft has given it no release date.
Good to know
Double Agent on Xbox 360, PC and PS3 is the version that leads into Conviction; the Xbox, PS2, GameCube and Wii version tells a different story. Essentials (PSP, 2006) collects flashback missions and is skippable. The remake was announced in December 2021 and Ubisoft confirmed in February 2026 that it remains in development despite layoffs at Ubisoft Toronto; unverified screenshots circulated in September 2026 but no date has been set. The Netflix animated series Deathwatch (October 2025) is a separate continuity and is not listed, since list items are games.
