About The Conjuring
The Conjuring Universe spans 10 films: four mainline Warren cases, three Annabelle films, two Nun films and The Curse of La Llorona. The Conjuring: Last Rites arrived September 5, 2025, adapting the Smurl haunting as Ed and Lorraine Warren's billed final case, with Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga closing their 12-year run.
Release order is recommended, since each spinoff assumes you know the Warrens. Timeline order shuffles nearly everything, with The Nun (set in 1952) first and Last Rites (set in 1986) last. Warner Bros. has dated a prequel, The Conjuring: First Communion, for September 10, 2027, starring younger Warrens.
Good to know
Last Rites is final for Wilson and Farmiga, not necessarily for the universe: the 2027 prequel recasts young Ed and Lorraine with Garrett Wareing and Amanda Fix. La Llorona connects only through a shared priest character and plays as a standalone, so skipping it loses nothing. Annabelle: Creation opens with a 1940s prologue, but its main story sits in 1955, ahead of The Nun II (1956). A reported HBO series has no date, so this films-only guide leaves it out.
