About Knives Out
Knives Out is an anthology, not a serialized saga. Daniel Craig's detective Benoit Blanc is the only recurring character; each film drops him into a new location with a new cast and a self-contained case. You can start anywhere, but release order shows how writer-director Rian Johnson keeps reshaping the whodunit.
The run so far: Knives Out (2019), a family-inheritance murder in Massachusetts; Glass Onion (2022), a tech billionaire's Greek island reunion; and Wake Up Dead Man (2025), a church murder billed as Blanc's darkest case. The third film played in limited theaters from November 26, 2025 before streaming on Netflix from December 12.
Good to know
A fourth film is not greenlit as of September 17, 2026. Johnson has said he holds only vague conceptual ideas for the next Blanc mystery and plans to make a standalone film first, with him and Craig returning only as long as both enjoy the process. The Netflix two-sequel deal that covered Glass Onion and Wake Up Dead Man is now fulfilled.
