About Val Lewton
Val Lewton ran RKO's horror unit on B budgets, short runtimes and studio-picked titles. With directors Jacques Tourneur, Mark Robson and Robert Wise, he built horror out of shadow and suggestion instead of monsters.
The seven films stand alone, but release order is still the best path. Players recur across them, and The Curse of the Cat People (1944) continues the first film. Start with Cat People and end with Bedlam.
Good to know
Tom Conway plays Dr. Judd in both Cat People and The Seventh Victim, though Judd dies in the earlier film; treat it as a reuse, not strict continuity. Outside this seven sit Lewton's non-horror RKO titles and the Karloff vehicles The Body Snatcher (1945) and Isle of the Dead (1945). Paul Schrader remade Cat People in 1982.
