About Blackadder
Rowan Atkinson plays a different Edmund Blackadder in each of four series, from a medieval prince in The Black Adder (1983) to a First World War captain in Blackadder Goes Forth (1989), with Tony Robinson as Baldrick throughout.
The 1988 specials The Cavalier Years and Blackadder's Christmas Carol sit between the third and fourth series in release order, and the time-travel film Blackadder: Back and Forth closed the run in 1999.
Good to know
Talk of a fifth series has come up for years, but Richard Curtis ruled out a return in October 2018 and Ben Elton gave a downbeat update in December 2024, so this guide treats the run as complete. The unaired 1982 pilot was shown publicly for the first time in June 2023 as part of the Gold documentary Blackadder: The Lost Pilot.
