About Magnum P.I.
Tom Selleck plays Thomas Magnum, a private investigator living in the Robin's Nest guest house on Oahu, across eight seasons and 162 episodes on CBS from December 1980 to May 1988. Season 7 was written to kill Magnum off, but fan protest brought the show back for a 13-episode final season.
The 2018 reboot stars Jay Hernandez as Magnum and ran four seasons on CBS before moving to NBC for a 20-episode fifth season that ended January 3, 2024. The reboot is a separate continuity with no story link to the original, so release order is the simplest path: all of Selleck, then all of Hernandez.
Good to know
The reboot aired on CBS from 2018 to 2022, then NBC aired the final 20 episodes in two parts billed as season 5. No revival of either continuity was announced as of September 17, 2026.
