About Blue Exorcist
Rin Okumura learns he is Satan's son, inherits blue flames, and enrolls at True Cross Academy to become the exorcist who kills his own father. A-1 Pictures animated the 25-episode first season in 2011, then returned for the 12-episode Kyoto Saga in 2017. Studio VOLN took over for the 2024 and 2025 arcs.
Watch in release order, but know season 1 splits in two. Its second half (roughly episodes 17 through 25) is an anime-original ending that later seasons ignore. Kyoto Saga resets to the manga path and continues through Shimane Illuminati, Beyond the Snow and The Blue Night Saga. The 2012 film and all OVAs are optional extras.
Good to know
Sources disagree on the exact split point in season 1: some place it after episode 16, others after episode 17. Either way, Kyoto Saga continues from the mid-season 1 manga material, not from the finale. The television run totals 73 episodes: 25 plus four 12-episode arcs.
Beyond the Snow Saga (October 2024) and The Blue Night Saga (January to March 2025) aired as two cours of one continuation. No further anime season has been announced as of September 17, 2026.
