About Fullmetal Alchemist

Edward and Alphonse Elric hunt the Philosopher's Stone after a failed transmutation. Bones made two separate versions: the 2003 series, 51 episodes, which leaves the manga around episode 25 and invents its own villains and ending, and Brotherhood, 64 episodes from 2009 to 2010, which adapts Hiromu Arakawa's complete manga.

The two are not parts one and two. Pick one continuity at a time. Brotherhood stands alone. The 2003 series needs its 2005 film to finish. The Sacred Star of Milos (2011) is an optional side story in the Brotherhood lane.

Good to know

The split sits near Maes Hughes's death: episode 25 in the 2003 series, episode 10 in Brotherhood. Conqueror of Shamballa (July 23, 2005) is required only for the 2003 path. The Sacred Star of Milos is non-canon and skippable. OVAs on both sides are extras for completionists.
