About Vampire Hunter D
Vampire Hunter D follows D, a half-vampire swordsman who hunts nobles across a far-future wasteland, adapted from Hideyuki Kikuchi's novels with designs by Yoshitaka Amano. The two films are standalone stories by different directors, so release order is the simplest path and no prior reading is required.

Bloodlust premiered at Fantasia in July 2000 and reached Japanese theaters on April 21, 2001, so some sources list it as a 2001 film. GKIDS announced an HD remaster in August 2026 with select North American screenings planned for fall 2026 ahead of a wider theatrical and home release in 2027.
