About The Land Before Time
Don Bluth's 1988 original, executive produced by Spielberg and Lucas, follows Littlefoot's trek to the Great Valley. It stands apart in tone and craft from everything after. Universal then produced 13 direct-to-video musical sequels from 1994 to 2007 without Bluth, Lucas or Spielberg, plus a 2016 revival film.
Release order is the recommended path. The sequels are episodic and gentle, so younger viewers can stop anywhere. The 26-episode TV series aired on Cartoon Network from March 2007 and is set after film XIII; watch it last.
Good to know
Sequels II through XIII went direct to video with rotating directors and no involvement from Bluth, Lucas or Spielberg. Sources disagree on some video street dates: XI is listed as 2004 or 2005 and XII as 2006 or 2007 depending on region. Years here follow the franchise filmography. The TV series ran one season of 26 episodes, March 2007 to January 2008 in the US.
