About Assassin's Creed
Assassin's Creed has 14 mainline games from 2007's original through 2025's Shadows, plus the July 2026 remake Black Flag Resynced. The modern-day framing story runs in release order, while each historical setting jumps across centuries.
This play order gives both lists. Release order is recommended because later games assume familiarity with the Animus setup and stealth systems, even when the history moves backward.
Good to know
New players should start with Origins, Odyssey or Mirage. Origins teaches the RPG systems, Odyssey is the largest ancient world, and Mirage is shorter and closer to classic stealth.
Shadows launched March 20, 2025 with the Claws of Awaji expansion on September 16, 2025 and a Switch 2 port on December 2, 2025. Black Flag Resynced launched July 9, 2026 and is the latest released game. Codename Hexe was announced in 2022 with no official date; insider reports point to late 2027, but Ubisoft has not confirmed a window.
