About Destiny
Destiny is Bungie's shared-world shooter about Guardians defending the solar system. Destiny (2014) plus four expansions forms the opening chapter, and Destiny 2 (2017) ran the decade-long Light and Darkness saga through the Final Shape (2024) before a short Fate Saga closed it out. Expansions are grouped by saga era below because Bungie retired several old campaigns, so a strict list would include unplayable entries.
New players start with Destiny 2 free, then buy the expansions in the order below. Skip the 2014 original unless collecting; its story is recapped in Destiny 2 and its live events are over.
Good to know
Bungie ended active Destiny 2 development with the free Monument of Triumph update in June 2026; servers stay online with bug fixes only. Two planned Fate Saga expansions, Shattered Cycle and The Alchemist, were cancelled. Seasonal content is grouped into its expansion era and not listed separately.
