The games in release order; the two Preys are separate continuities, so either can come first.

  1. 1 Prey 2006 · game Human Head original; a linear shooter about the abduction of Tommy Tawodi.
  2. 2 Prey 2017 · game Arkane reimagining aboard Talos I; a separate continuity and the recommended entry point.
  3. 3 Prey: Mooncrash 2018 · game Roguelike DLC for the 2017 game; the Typhon Hunter multiplayer update and TranStar VR missions arrived free alongside it in December 2018.

About Prey

Prey is the name of two separate games that share a title and an alien-hunting premise but no story. The 2006 original is a linear shooter about a Cherokee mechanic abducted aboard an alien ship; the 2017 game is Arkane's immersive sim set aboard the Talos I station. This play order follows release order. Newcomers should start with Prey (2017), the longer-lived and more influential of the two.

Play the two in either order, since neither continues the other. Mooncrash adds a roguelike campaign to the 2017 game, and the free Typhon Hunter update adds multiplayer and VR missions.

Good to know

The 2017 game reuses nothing from the cancelled Prey 2; Bethesda presented it as a reimagining, not a sequel. No new Prey game has been announced as of September 2026.
