About Resident Evil
Resident Evil follows the survivors of Raccoon City's outbreak across mainline games from 1996's original through 2026's Requiem, which returns to the ruined city thirty years later with Grace Ashcroft and Leon. Four modern remakes (1 through 4) retell the early games and replace the originals for new players.
Revelations 1 and 2 are canon side stories set between main games. They are worth playing for fans but never gate the plot.
Good to know
Play in release order, using the remakes in place of the originals where they exist. The chronological list shuffles only the early games: Zero is a prequel, and 3 overlaps 2 across the same three days in Raccoon City.
Requiem released February 27, 2026 and lets players switch between first and third person. A Code Veronica remake is widely reported for 2027 but Capcom has not dated it, so it is not listed here yet.
