About Shenmue
Shenmue tells one continuous story, so release order is the play order and the games should be played in sequence. The 2018 remasters are the simplest way to play the first two games on modern systems.
Good to know
Shenmue: The Animation (2022) retells the first two games and works as a recap before Shenmue III. Creator Yu Suzuki still hopes to make Shenmue IV, though nothing has been announced.
