About Blade Runner
Two films anchor the franchise: Ridley Scott's Blade Runner (1982) starring Harrison Ford as replicant hunter Rick Deckard, and Denis Villeneuve's Blade Runner 2049 (2017) with Ryan Gosling as K. Watch the 2007 Final Cut of the original; Scott treats it as definitive. Three 2017 shorts bridge the 30 year gap, including the anime Blade Runner Black Out 2022 from Cowboy Bebop director Shinichiro Watanabe.
Release order is the recommended path below, with the shorts in story sequence before 2049. The anime series Black Lotus (13 episodes, 2021) is optional and set in 2032. The live action miniseries Blade Runner 2099, starring Michelle Yeoh and Hunter Schafer, premieres November 25, 2026 on Amazon Prime Video with all eight episodes at once.
Good to know
The 1982 film exists in multiple cuts: workprint, theatrical with voiceover, Director's Cut, and Final Cut. A third film has been floated by Scott since 2018 with no script or date, so treat it as rumor.
