About Lethal Weapon
Shane Black created the series and Richard Donner directed all four films. Mel Gibson plays LAPD detective Martin Riggs opposite Danny Glover's Roger Murtaugh, from Lethal Weapon (1987) through Lethal Weapon 2 (1989) and Lethal Weapon 3 (1992) to Lethal Weapon 4 (1998). Joe Pesci, Rene Russo and Chris Rock join along the way.
A fifth film, often called Lethal Finale, has been in development for years. After Donner's death in 2021, Gibson and writer Richard Wenk finished the script with Gibson set to direct. In August 2026 Gibson said the finished script was stuck at Warner Bros. amid the studio's ownership talks, with no production date. Nothing is greenlit.
Good to know
The 2016-2019 Lethal Weapon TV series is a separate continuity with different actors and is excluded from the list. Gibson suggested in August 2026 the fifth film could surface in about a year if ownership changes free it; that is his guess, not a date.
