About Deadwood
David Milch's western follows Seth Bullock and Al Swearengen in an 1870s Dakota mining camp, across 3 seasons and 36 episodes on HBO from March 2004 to August 2006. The show was cancelled instead of renewed, so season 3 ends without settling the Hearst fight.
Deadwood: The Movie premiered May 31, 2019, reuniting most of the cast for a 110-minute story set around South Dakota statehood in 1889. Watch the three seasons first, then the film. It functions as the finale.
Good to know
Milch wrote the film while living with an Alzheimer's diagnosis, a fact widely reported around its release. Powers Boothe and Ralph Richeson died before production, so Cy Tolliver and Richardson do not appear and were not recast.
