About Firefly
Firefly ran one season of 14 episodes on Fox in 2002. Creator Joss Whedon's two-part pilot Serenity introduces Malcolm Reynolds and his crew, but Fox held it back and opened the run with The Train Job instead. Three episodes never aired on Fox at all.
The intended order below starts with Serenity and ends with Objects in Space, matching the DVD sequence. Serenity (2005), written and directed by Whedon, picks up after the series and gives the crew a big-screen ending.
Good to know
Fox aired 11 of the 14 episodes out of order from September to December 2002. The Serenity pilot aired last on December 20, 2002, while Trash, The Message and Heart of Gold debuted later outside the Fox run. The Train Job was written in days as a replacement opener after Fox rejected the original pilot for lacking action. No revival or sequel was announced as of September 17, 2026.
