About Mortal Kombat
Mortal Kombat (1995) adapts the first game's tournament, and Mortal Kombat Annihilation (1997) continues it directly. The pair form the original screen continuity. The 2021 Mortal Kombat reboot starts over with a new cast and adds Cole Young, a character created for film.
Mortal Kombat II opened May 8, 2026, moving the reboot continuity into the Outworld tournament with Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, and Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn. It earned about $129 million worldwide and drew mixed reviews. A third film has a screenwriter attached but no green light.
Good to know
The four Mortal Kombat Legends animated films (Scorpion's Revenge 2020, Battle of the Realms 2021, Snow Blind 2022, Cage Match 2023) run in their own continuity and are not in this list.
